Morris Old Mill
The address is 28 N 4 Bridges Rd., Long Valley. From the northern edge of Chester, take 4 Bridges Road about 1 mile west, turn left on Bartley Road/Cr 625 and go 0.25 miles, then right and continue on 4 Bridges Road for 0.25 miles to the mill and dam on thre right.
The 1868 atlas by Beers, Ellis, and Soule shows a J. P. Sharp owning property beside the mill and H. Miller owning property across the street from the mill.
The two story wooden-framed mill on a one story native stone foundation is pleasantly situated by the dam on the South Branch of the Raritan River on the edge of Washington Township near Roxbury Township.
The 1887 atlas by E. Robinson shows the same people living beside the mill and across from the mill.
The gate introducing the impounded water from behind the dam into the inlet raceway to the mill.
The dam on the southeast side of the mill with an additional gate structure to let surplus water downstream.
