Buckingham Lumber & Millwork Co.
Located about two miles south of US 202 along Pa 413/Durham Road at Upper Mountain Road.
Previously the Buckingham Coal and Lumber Co. built in c.1891-c.1894. Old coal barn, coal shed, and lumber mill now a lumber supply and hardware store. May still do some woodworking on occasion. Located about 500' east of Mill Creek with Conrail spur tracks between. This photo was taken the day after Hurricane Floyd, a hundred year flood, ravaged the Delaware Valley and New Jersey with high winds and torrential rains. The previous day and night, the lumberyard was flooded out, but the water receeded quickly on this afternoon of the next day.
*Update: I have seen some info that indicates the main structure was built in 1891. Constructed of Post & Beam wood frame with stone foundation, wood siding, & slate roof. We sold coal up till about the mid 60's. The rail system is not between our building & the creek but there is a side spur rail that runs along the side of the building. The building does not appear quite the same today as it did in 1999; but, it is not that much different. The addition of red & white stain on the east side of the building has made it look a bit more "lived in". Ray Reeves IV is the third generation to run the store since his grandfather bought the business in 1961. At least two other other parties owned the millworking store prior to the Reeves' ownership.
