As a teenager (1960's) I lived with my family in our home on Bridge Street next to the river, falls, and active railroad. This house now, sadly showing it's age, appears to be chopped up into small apartment rentals. I do, however, have such fond memories overlooking the falls and the mills that were so active during that time period. This was when we still had the covered railroad bridge behind our home with the clattering of the train slowing down to a stop at the crossing (just at the bottom of the hill) Later on, I worked for a short while part time at the woolen mill spinning yarn. It was an experience I never forgot. Tena Carpenter Ellinwood.

A millstone, probably from the old Marcy Grist Mill that later became a picker house for the woolen mill.

The mill was the town's largest employer, producing mostly woolen underwear. The mill was closed by the early 1960's.
