The mill is a brick steam-powered woolen mill built in 1860 by Walton Watkins. The 3.5 story mill has a footprint of 40'X 70'. All the textile milling equipment is intact as is also an "Oliver Evans" type grist mill inside the building. The mill, a Greek Revival miller's house, barn, and other out-buildings make up the Watkins Woolen Mill State Historic Site. There is a charge to see the mill and also a very nice museum/interpretive building. There are several other brick buildings in another section of the park that are not to be missed. An eight-sided shoolhouse & a church to name several.
