Durham Mill
Just off Pa 212 about 2.5 miles west of the Delawrae River and Pa 611. Turn north off Pa 212 onto Coon Hollow Rd. and immediately turn right onto Durham Old Furnace Rd. The mill ahead at next road to the left (CR 09061--Durham Rd.).
The mill is actually two mill buildings attached to each other. The earliest mill, the stone/stucco mill 3.5-4 stories high measures about 40'x50' and was built in 1820 by William & Jane Long. The brick portion was built later in 1912 By H. K. Riegel. Ceresota Flour lettering in black can still faintly be seen on the white painted brick, but faded greatly.
The stone part has a cupola on the north or rear end and also a dormer on the west side. The brick building has a gambrel-style roof and both roofs are slate. Both buildings were in fantastic shape in Spring 1983. The U. S. Post Office is housed in the rear of one or both mills. The mills and the nearby Durham Furnace are part of the Bucks County Park System.
Entrance to the Durham Furnace rebuilt in 1932. Just make out the mills in the top or the photograph.
