From I-83, take US 30 east for 0.1 miles to Taronita St. Taronita St. becomes Black Bridge Road. Turn left and drive past the refuse plant and turn right onto Flour Mill Rd. Permission is needed to enter property and take pictures-best to call and make an appointment.
The mill complex was built in 1831-32 by George Small. A large commercial mill north of the City of York, once water-powered, later probably converted to diesel, but now fully electrically operated.
The mill was actually taken over by the Confederate troops for a few days during the Civil War.
Luckily, the Cinfederats didn't destroy the mill. Had it been a smaller structure, it probably would have succombed to the opposing armies "scorched earth policy", although the North was more accustomed to using such tactics.
Be sure to ask permission or call ahead before venturing on the grounds and taking pictures. A tour might be available if the manager is not busy; but, no pictures are to be taken inside for security reasons.
