Much business was transacted here during the Civil War. At that time, Peter Landis (who may have been the owner and/or operator) paid $3.50 for a bushel of wheat; it was then gound into flour and sold for $16 to $18 a barrel.
The proximity of the mill to the railroad provided excellent transportation facilities for the distribution of the flour.
The outlet arch for the mill. In 1876, a township map indicates the mill was known as Saucon Valley Mills: Landis & Stehler, props.
Some information came from an unpublished manuscript by Elsie Gruver in 1976 to glean information about the Mills of Upper Saucon Township to honor the 200th anniverary of America.
