Wellers Mill / Engleman Mill
The mill is located on the north side of Watson Lane about one mile west of New Windsor. Watson Lane runs parallel to and on the north side of Md 75.
John Winters built a mill on Pipe Creek between Linwood and New Windsor.
The grist and saw mill of the late George & John Winters on an excellent stream, near the White Sulpher Springs was advertised under decree by Stephen Bowers, trustee.
William Engleman bought the mill in 1834. Engleman built a new mill in 1853. Joseph H. Weller owned the mill in 1925, selling "Wirthmore Feeds, the Big Name in Farm Feeds".
Eden Engleman's flour, feed and saw mill at Union Bridge appeared in the 1877 county atlas.
The approximately 16' X 18" waterwheel was supplied by a foot diameter penstock from a small impoundment filled by Pipe Creek.
Thomas M. Haley acquired the title c. 1882. Later owners were Emanuel Fisher, George H. Waltz (1880) and Joseph H Weller in 1925.
The original wooden water wheel was replaced by a steel one of 60 buckets, and the entire mill was electrified. The mill was still operating as late as 1970 by the Wellers. . In 2008, most of the equipment was still intact inside.
