George Ulrich built this 40"X 60' frame grist and saw mill of 1.5 stories on a 1 story redstone foundation, probably the older mill foundation, in 1900, after acquiring the older mill sometime betqween 1875 and 1899 from John Kurtz. Ulrichs mill started out as a 3.5 story mill but was reduced a story in the first half of the 20th century. Several additions appeared also before the 1950's.
Kurtz's pre 1817 mill seems to have been a fulling mill unti the early 1820's; when , it was listed as a saw mill. It continued as a saw mill until the mid 1860's-early 1870's, when it was converted to being also a grist mill as well as saw mill. Ulrich's flour, grist, saw, and cider mill was powered by one overshot wheel from a 6' dam to produce 8 barrels of flour/day. The mill was promarily a saw mill around 1969 operated by Louis Boyer.
It was Boyer's Saw Mill in 1994, located just southeast of, and maybe on, the Richard Sauder Farm, some of which buildings are visible in in the background of phot #3. Still in fairly good condition in 2004, perhaps it still is in operation.GPS: 40D 17.22'N, 76D 9.1'W ele 502'/153 meters Womelsdorf Quadrangle
