The stone-arched bridge was built in 1841 to carry the Old Philly Pike over the Ontelaunee Creek.

The Old Philly Pike was built after the 1750's to roughly parallel the upper drainage of Pine Creek, to the northwest.

The crossing at Ontelaunee Creek was a fording until the new stone bridge was built in 1841, necessitated by heavy use of the ford by travelers of all kinds.
