Strohm's Mill / Wood's Mill / Pleasant Grove Mill
Old Mill Road/T434 at Conowingo Creek, about 0.5 miles NW of the Cecil Co, Md border and 0.75 miles SE of Pilottown Road at Pleasant Grove.
In 1767, Michael Bear owned a mill at or very near this location.
An earlier grist and saw mill was built about 1784 by David Strohm, father of Honest John Strohm. His 42X 52 stone mill was offered for sale in 1805.
From 1805 to 1824, Levi Brown, who carried on milling and store keeping at the location, was taxed on this 1874 mill along with ten acres.
Somewhere between 1861 and 1865, the mill was replaced by a Gothic frame structure, 3 stories and 30X 70. In 1864 & in 1875, the grist & saw mill was owned by Dr. G.B. Wood.
Annie Wood (widow) sold the mill to a Mr. Stubbs in 1895. The mill closed in 1936, was dilapidated and without windows in 2005.
The mill was being dismantled in February 2009 and was completely gone by March 2009. GPS: 39' 43.44N, 76' 11.08W 262' Elevation
