Stark Mill / Paisley City Roller Mills
Travel north on Provincial Highway 6 from Guelph for 100 km until reaching Dornoch. Turn left on Grey County Road 25 and continue to Chesley. Turn north on Bruce County Road 10 and left on Bruce County Road 11. Follow this road for 15 km to Paisley. When reaching Paisley's main street(Queen St.), turn right then immediately turn left onto Mill Street. The mill is about 1 km along this street.
The original mill on this site was built in 1855 by John Valentine and was sold to James Stark in 1872. The original mill burned in 1884. The present mill was built in 1885 by John McKechnie; at which time, the stone mill wheels were replaced by steel rollers.
This mill produced flour until the end of the Second World War. The mill continued to operate as a feed mill and remained in the Stark family for over 100 years, until it was closed in 1972. A sawmill on the site was washed away by a flood in 1929.
The mill renovation began in 2000 and the mill opened again after 30 years. The mill is currently owned and renovated by Paul & Helen Crysler. Find out more about the renovated mill by clicking on "background" on the mill's website.
