This old mill is located in Spring Valley at the junction of Spring Valley and Mill Rds about 0.25 miles south of US 202.
The 30'X 40' fieldstone/stucco 3.5 story grist mill, c. 1744, had a 30'X 30'stone/stucco saw mill attached to the rear which had one story removed, at some point, to make it a 2.5 story attachment to the rear of the mill.
The large stone/stucco miller's house sits next to Mill Road, but views of the mill are available south and north of the house. By 1987, the mill had been converted to a residence, unique in that large sections of stone wall had been removed and replaced with glass.
A very interesting mill, one that needs more information and history know, which will be forthcoming. The mill was converted to steam, probably for power during low stream flows, as indicated by the incorporated stone chiminey, and probably the mill office was located in that front corner. The old painting indicates the sawmill with 3.5 stories; the miller's house, extreme left; the single arch Moore's Mill stone bridge; and the neighboring house, circa 1725, and barn (barn since rebuilt).
The north side of the saw mill first, then the grist mill being the furtherwst away.
Millstone located in front of now sliding door as entrance to saw mill. This was the area where logs would have been dragged into the saw mill.
The single arched Moore's Mill stone bridge separating the mill property from the neighboring historical property. The house was built in 1725. The original barn perhaps burned and was rebuilt within the last ten years.
The old waterwheel axle being used in the living area of the grist mill as a support post.
Some massive timbered structures in the loe=wer nlevel of the grist mill, either placed to incorporate thenm into the decor or may ahve actually been part of the hurst frame to support the grind stones, which would normally have on the next story above.
The miller's house is located nearer to Mill Road, the mill being directly behind the photographer. The 4080 sq ft mill, miller's house and 8,0 acres were for sale thru Realtor.com in 2017 for $1,150,000.
Moore's Mill/Spring Valley Mill Bridge. An old road went back from Mill Road, past the mill to other houses behind. More info available when the info is located.GPS: 40' 19.03N, 75' 4.86W 279'/85 meters Buckingham Quadrangle
