Sporting Hill Mill / Dellinger's Mill
Turn right on Metz Rd/T885 from Mt Joy Road/Sh 772 about 2.5 miles SE of Manheim. Go about 0.5 miles on Metz Rd. to the mill on the left, downhill side just prior to the junction with Road T883.
A 40'X 60'2.5 story stone/frame mill used as a flour, grist, and for corn meal grinding in its operational days. A 4000'headrace and a 4000'tailrace utilized the waters of Dellinger Run from a dam 4'higher in elevation upstream of the mill. Abram Metz built the mill in 1814; but by 1822, the mill was owned and operated by Christian Metz.
Henry Dellinger owned the enterprise from 1860 through at least 1899. The output of the flour milling process was 25 barrels/day. The operations closed in 1925, and has been well-cared for as in 1969 it functioned as a barn and by 1995, it was part of a "Puppy Mill" factory, of which there are quite a few in Lancaster Co, Pa.
