The Shirra Mill, started in 1880 by Robert Shirra, was located across the Grand River from the Caledonia Milling Co. The Shirra Mill was sold to the Caledonia Milling Co. when the owner, Robert Shirra, could not afford his part of the upkeep on the mill dam, which was shared by both mills.

The Caledonia Milling Co. operated four segments of the complex: the Calidonia Mill, the Shirra Mill, the Feed Store, & the Garain Elevator by the RR tracks. O.T. Scott and his son, operated the mills, producing flour until O.T. died in 1956. A year later, the Shirra Mill was closed and abandoned. It burned in 1968.
