Site: Lineaweaver's Mill
Located about 6.5 miles east of Hummelstown on US322/Governor Rd./E. Main St. in Campbelltown. About 500-1000' east of the junction of Campbelltown/Palmyra Rd./Twp. Hwy 440 and US322 on the south side just east of the Rising Sun Tavern.
The establishment of the mill may have been close to 1883, when Franklin Foltz was listed as a flour mill owner in Lebanon Co, then a livestock dealer in 1889. Lineaweaver & Brother began this current operation in 1890. Harvey Lineaweaver, with his father Adam as part opwner, indicated that the upper floor was partitioned off into bins that the local farmers used to store their individual amounts of grain until they needed it ground. The mill closed about 1914, as many farmers were turning to buying gasoline engines to power grinders to grind their own grain.
The mill site became E.O. Miller's Cherolet dealership, then Hallman's Auto Body Shop, and currently in 2007 is the Brass Rail Beverage Co. The mill was sold at public auction May, 1920. The barn to the right in the old photo was the old livery stable for the neighboring Rising Son Hotel, later hosting cattle and horse auctions; this building burned in July 1955.
