Sherrierd's Grist Mill / Eckel's Mill/Hydro Plant
At the western edge of Washington Borough, turn south off Sh 57 at Pleasant Valley onto Mill Pond Road and go about 1/2 mile to the brick structure on the right just before crossing the Pahatcong Creek.
The footprintof the Eckel's Hydro Plant is approximately 35'x 65'. The hyroelectric plant containing a small mill shop, powered Eckel's home,hus airstrip and the large millpond for night use.
The placque embedded in the brick wall near the front of the building gives the ownership history of the site beginning with John Sherrierd's Grist Mill built in 1790.
The rear of the hydro plant/mill from the small bridge over Pahatcong Creek. The stone foundation is the original, common to the Sherrierd's Mill which burned in 1929.
The mills tailrace as it comes out of the building to return to the Pahatcong Creek.
The miller's house is situated across Mill Pond Road from the mill.
