The bottom door on the milling side for entry into the wheel itself. During operation, water would feed into the mill through the headrace, flow through the room, covering the wheel by at least 6 inches, and turning the horizontal tubwheel, which in turn would turn the top grindstone in the room above. The water exited by way of a tailrace back to the source.
