The mill, built in 1815 and substantiated by tax records and deeds, had a first story of stone and the upper stories originally of logs. Located along the Mahonney Creek that originates from a gushing spring on the slopes of Second Mountain. The mill could grind 100#s of grain an hour, using an interior 20'overshot(hopper type) wheel and later changing to a turbine. Different processes were used for grinding corn, chopping corn cobs, and hulling oats. Corn meal was the source of mush, finely ground corn that is a good breakfast cereal when cooked soft in water, served with milk, and sprinkled with sugar. Great for frying, when cooled and formed, along with scrapple to make a scrumptious breakfast.

Daniel Boyer is known to have been the operator from 1865 to 1894. The mill was run by the Bohrman family, who also owned the adjacent farm from 1894 until it closed probably in the early to mid 1900's. The 20' internal overshot wheel was removed and a turbine installed by Carl & Roy Bohrman stortly before the mill ceased operating. From 1866-1875, there were about 45 grist mills and 86 saw mills in Schuylkill County, many of these on Cild Run and Pine Creek.

The photo is of an original millstone found on the property. The mill was located on Pa 443 just off a busy thorofare, Centre Turnpike/Pa 61, which ran from Sunbury to Phildelphia. Pa 61 still runs from Sunbury to Reading, then changes to US 422 to Philadelphia. The grist and saw mills are gone, the homes on the picture are still there, but the area will always be known as Bohrman's Mill.
