Rush Valley Mills / Mitchell's Mill / Hampton's Mill
In the vicinity of Swamp Rd., Mill Creek Rd., and Penns Park Rd. junction near Mill Creek. Mill is a private residence.

This old pre-revolutionary mill was built in 1718. It lies right beside Mill Creek near the junction of Swamp Rd., Mill CreekRd., and Penns Park Rd. Mill Creek in the photo, was running quite full within its banks. A grist and saw mill were present on the site in two separate structures and both were rebuilt in 1770 and 1850. In the 1880's, the grist mill was modernized, which probably means it was converted to the roller mill process.

This copy of a turn of the 20th century postcard by the Arnold Bros. depicts the business as usual at Rush Valley Mills, Rushland, Pa.

Not much is known of its history, although a postcard by the Arnold Bros. refers to the mill as Rush Valley Mills, near Rushland and located in Wrightstown Twp, Bucks County, Pa. Both the grist and the saw mill were powered by 18' water wheels. The date of the saw mills demise is not known.

A view of the mill, now apartments, from the edge of Mill Creek. The next photo shows a similar view, only from the south side of the mill.

Included in a list of published removals and changes in the April 8, 1876 Doylestown Intelligencer, was a statement to the fact that Peter Miller had removed from the storehouse in Rush Valley and settled into a house opposite Hampton's Mill in the community of the same name.

Is this Hampton's Mill the same as the Rush Valley Mills? The new owner of the mill refers to it as Mitchell's Mill, built in 1718. The photos provided by Mr. Hammer are definitely the same as the Arnold Bros. photo of Rush Valley Mills. Another name for the mill is Weldon's Mill.

Currently owned by Mr. Walter Hammer, at least since 02/22/2003 to the present.
