Take Tempe Wicke Road SE from NJ 24/Mendham Road toward Jockey Hollow National Military Park. About a mile short of the park, Jockey Hollow Road turns right. Keep straight on Tempe Wicke Rd. about 100 yards and the Liddell's Pond Dam and mill ruins are on the left.
A photo of Liddell's Saw Mill/John Logan's Grist Mill taken by Albert S. Burns in the mid-1930's as part of the Historis American Buildings Survey or HABS: Library of Congress, Prints & Photographs Division, Historic American Buildings Survey. The call number is located at the bottom of each photo.
This view corresponds to the last photo for this mill 72 years later. On page 213 in the book, "Historic Morristown, N.J.: The Story of Its First Century" by Andrew M. Sherman, the author goes on to tell about Leddell's Mill being still in operation and grinding grain just as it had the 125 years prior, since 1780.
This is the mill as it faced the Tempe Wicke Road near Jockey Hollow. It was a grist Mill and also sawed lumber. Another photo at Digital Antiquaria website showed the mill as Leddell's Mills, with cut lumber piles several places on either side of the wagon shed/saw bed.
The right hand bottom portion of the mill side to the right of the tree has been enlarged to show several numbered stones that correspond to the next two current photo and it's corresponding enlargement of the same stones, numbered for easy recognition.
the current photo, 2007, of the same view of the vintage side view of the mill in picture #3. The extreme right corner of the stone wall is the subject for the next enlargement.
The current wall enlargement of the mill ruins immediately to the right of the side door in the vintage photo, picture #3.
The dam wall with some overflow near the intersection of Tempe Wicke Road and Jockey Hollow Road just to the left of the mill ruins. Another New Jersey history source mentioned Weddel's Pond & Mill,Washington Corner, the junction of Tempe Wicke Road and Jockey Hollow Road-SE part of Mendham.
Another 2007 view of the side of the mill ruins with the dam wall behind and to the left of the photo.
