Ruins: Kerst Farm Mill
About 3 miles south of Birdsboro on Pa 724, turn right on Shed Road, turn right onto Crusher Road. The mill ruins and dam are just beyond Sixpenny Creek crossing on the left.
The dam on Sixpenny Creek is still in good repair and quite scenic.
The apparent waterwheel and control valve for the inlet to the mill along with some foundation material. The mill was a pioneer mill, 2 story, 4 bay, of stone stucco construction.
Built c. 1800-1830 by George Kerst, it was afterwards known as Linderman's Mill. The remains of what appears to be a small water wheel.
Also in Sixpenny Creek, George Zachariah had operated a forge for a number of years, then Clinton Forge was torn down and the water power used to power Shirey's Mill.
The apparent miller's house across Crusher Road from the mill ruins. Just downstream, Jacob Umstead operated fulling, feed and oil mills in the late 1800's. Daniel Kinsey also operated a grist mill on down toward Monocacy.
