Patterson-Altman Mill
From Pittsburgh, take Parkway east to US 22 East. Make right onto Sh 286 (Golden Mile Highway)in Monroeville, Pa, go for approximately 20 miles to Saltsburg. Make an immediate right after crossing the bridge as you enter Saltsburg onto Water Street. The mill is two blocks on the left on Water St.

Plainsifter located on the 3rd floor, 8-10 chutes connecting to lower floors. Connected to dust collectors and elevators above.Purpose: sifted the same way a shaker shifts the larger pieces from smaller pieces. Different sized flour was sent to different machines and floors
Dust collectors located on the 4th floor. Leather belts attached to sides of these machines. New metal piping has been added to stream line the system down the the first floor rollers.Purpose: Remove dustand debris from wheat and flour and add air flow to chutes system.

Located next to the plainsifters on the 3rd floor. These were double stacked,2 machines one on top of the other, and there were two sets of these sifters.Purpose: Finely sift flour down to lower levels based on size.

About 30 chutes that run through the middle of the mill carrying the wheat or flour up from floor to floor, turning over at the top and dumping its bucket load and picking up more at the bottom.
