Painter's Mill
From Chadds Ford on US 1, go north on Creek Road, about 2.4 miles to 1075 Creek Road at W Street Road/Sr 926. The mill property will be on the east side of the road. The mill sits back off the road about 100 yards.
Tax lists show Joseph Painter to be a fuller and cloth dresser, who owned a fulling mill in 1795.
The miller's house behind the right side of the mill.
A different view.
A corn cob grinder located in the ground floor.
Perhaps some heavy timber structure to support a grindstone set if it was ever a grist mill.
Joseph Painter built a house on this property in the late 1700's.
This former farm and mill retains the house, wooden barn, wooden corncrib and stone and frame mill.
The newer, more modern barn on the property. A fieldstone one story dairy barn with frame upper end walls and a hip roof. The barn has several stone buttresses on the roadside end for added strength.
Perhaps a dam immediately behind the mill, hence the wall.
