Smith Mill was the original mill at this location, named after owners Thomas & Martha Smith.
The original mill passed through several owners after the Smiths, finally being purchased and operated by Gerald Gover.
The new mill, present mill, was built by Mr. Gover in 1854. The mill was acquired in 1869 by Benjamin Noble, who processed forty barrels of flour a day in the mill, with power from the swift-flowing Deer Creek. Mr. Noble lent his name to the steel bridge by the mill over Deer Creek.
The former milling structure has been renovated into a residential dwelling. The bridge in foreground, built in 1883 by the Wrought Iron Bridge Company of Canton, Ohio,is the longest single-span Pratt through truss bridge in Harford Co at 143'.
