Nicodemus Mill / Wharf Mill
From Waynesboro at Pa 16, take Pa 316 north about 3 miles to Wharf Road on the left. The road is now closed, but you can still drive to the mill which is only 0.1 miles west of Pa 316, about a mile south of the community of Five Forks at present day Nocodemus.
Five Forks, formerly known as Mount Hope, had agrist mill in the mid-1800's. Perhaps this mill is the same one?
The doors up the front on each floor and the sack hoist have been enclosed with framework.
The steel overshot waterwheel is approximately 5' wide and 4' in diameter.
The wheel is supplied with water via an underground 2' penstock that comes up into a distribution box that pours the water evenly across the wheel.
The arch at the rear of the mills foundation is the site of the penstock entrance, although several feet lower.
The mill appears presently abandoned, but may be or recently has been used as a residence.
