New Milltown Roller Mill / Hess' Mill
On Rt 772 between Gap & Intercourse, a quarter mile east of Pequea Valley High School--Herb Fisher 12/07/2009
This 45'X 50', 3.5 story mill built in 1800 by Christian Hess along the Pequea Creek replaced an earlier mill of 1752 vintage thrown-up by John & Martha Houston. The 1800 Hess mill was sold to Dan Denlinger in 1860. Jacob Hunsecker and descendents ran mill from 1875 to 1937 when it was rebuilt after a fire.
Was a country craft/nic-nac store in 1992. East exposure of mill showing some of the craft items. Presently in excellent condition. Offered for sale in 1995.
Purchased by Ron & Isabel Lieberman in 1998. With help of local Amish, they substantially restored the mill, and use it for their home, and as a base for their business selling antiquarian books.
*Update: The territory is called New Milltown and probably was known as such since the 1750's. Also the Roller Mill almost certainly was not in before 1855 - more than 100 years after the mill was founded. Ron Lieberman-owner 07/22/2006* The mill is located at 4887 Newport Road, Kinzers, Pa 17535.
