Mosser Mill
From the junction of Sh 309 & Sh 143, continue a mile northwest on Sh 309, turn left on Springhouse Road, follow it for about a mile, crossing over Mosserville Road/Sr 4024 at Mosserville, and coming to the mill complex on the left, down behind a red barn, the first complex of buildings after crossing over Mosserville Rd.
A log mill was built sometime before 1800 by Philip Mosser.
Philip's son, David, tore down the log mill and replaced it, in 1817, with a 2 story stone flour mill.
The front of one of the(2) 2.5 frame additions with its unusual half catshead or sack hoist.
The frame additions have stacked Dutch doors on the front of the last addition and on the south side of the first addition.
The roof on the entire structure is slate, mined from the nearby region near Slatington. The south side needs more restoration; although, the road side of the frame part was repaired and covered in pale yellow aluminum or vinyl horizontal siding.
The Penna. Dutch Bank barn that is part of the mill complex.
Apparently never a mill/miller's house combination (the miller's house of 1862 is across the road), flour milling ended in 1890 but grist milling continued into 1914, whereupon, the mill ceased operating. It was converted into a residence at a later date.
