Mandata Mill / Wert Mill
This mill is located on Urbana Road/SR 3016, in the Village of Mandata. From the junction of Pa 225 and Pa 147, go south on Pa 225 about 0.2 miles to Urbana Road on the left. Turn left and the mill will be right, straight ahead.
This photo of the Mandata Mill in the villiage of Mandata was snapped about 15 days later than the photos with snow on the ground.
The sun in the upper photo adds a little warmth and brightness to the picture.
A millstone serves a second function at this mill, namely that of a step for the lower, front milldoor.
A closeup of the millstone. Unusual in that the millstone is banded. Most banded millstones were those that were asectional; the bands needed to hold the millstone tightly together.
The outlet arch allowing the water from the tributary of Fidlers Run to exit the mill.
Another photo of the mill, begun by Mr. Wert c. 1790, about 220 years later in mid March of 2010.
