Locks Farm's Grist Mill
Off Pa 724 northwest of the village of Cedarville by the abandoned Schuylkill Canal at Locks Farms.
The 3.5 story fieldstone grist mill received it's water supply from the Laurel Locks on the Schuylkill Navvigation Co.'s Canal that paralleled the Schuylkill River and provided the means of river transportation from Hamburg on the north through Phoenixville on the south end.
A farm grew up around the mill and locks, spreading outward to form the village of Cedarville. Tha 35'x45' mill along with the smaller 20'x25' fieldstone miller's house was the center of the flegling operation. The farm operation included dairy barns, storage barns and a main mansion.
A view of the mill and miller's cottage from the lower level. The Laurel Locks are a couple hundred yards to the left. Quite a bit of the lock remains and may be the subject of future restoration.
