Lewis/Schleifer Mill
From Pa 313/Broad St. just east of Pa 309 in Quakertown, turn left on Main St./California Road. Go just beyond two miles to the mill on the left equal distance between Mine Road and Dickert Road at the small stream about one mile south of Cherry Rd. & California Rd. intersection at the village of California.
Lewis Grist Mill, also known as Schleifer Grist Mill, on a small tributary to Tohickon Creek about a mile south of California on California Road. Apparently was better known as a saw mill and later as a beer parlor.
The mill dam falls and some of the millrace remains on the woody hillside.
The largest building, the current residence, the first and last photos, was the actual grist mill. *Update: The stone buliding in ruins was the miller's house and the building to the right of that house (with the black tarp) was the tenant house. It had a basement with a stoned in spring. Susan Arnholt, owner 07/01/1009*
Another view of the residence, stream/race to the left and old stone ruins of the miller's house and tenant house to the right.
