Laudenslager's Mill
The mill was located along on Mill Race Road, between Lower Macungie Road & Indian Creek Road, paralleling Pa 9/NE Extension of Pa. Turnpike in Lower Macungie Twp.
Built in 1831 by Conrad Neumeyer. The mill changed ownership more than once over the years, but in 1909 was known as Laudenslager's Mill.
Was also once operated under the name of M. M. Laudenslager Roller Mills. Apparently rollers had been added and it was known for its flour production.
It was the last of the old mills to operate in Lower Macungie, Harry Laudenslager grinding feed still using water power until operations ceased in 1958. It is referred to as a split-level mill, as some windows are positioned on a half-floor arrangement.
The 40'X 60' limestone/sandstone mill is a full 3 stories in height plus an attic. A 12'X 16" overshot wheel was powered by the little Lehigh Creek waters to turn the buhrstones and later the roller mills.
A very large sack hoist/catshead adorns the peak on the front of the mill. The photo shows a little of its construction.
Also known as Bartholemew's Mill for a later owner of the same name, although, quite possibly not the current owner.
