Kriebel/Shultz Grist & Oil Mill
Southwest of Pa 100 /Pa 29 junction on Pa 100 by 0.6 miles, turn right on Kriebel Rd. The mill is right at the turn, partly along Old Hwy. 100.
A mill dating from 1830 or 1837, built by Israel Kriebel, just on the edge of Lehigh County's Hosensack region. Unique in the fact that it is right in a corner of Berks County bordering on Lehigh County and Montgomery County, Penn. The 3.5 story 35'X 55' sandstone/fieldstone grist and oil mill at one time had a straight peaked roof or gabel roof instead of the present gambrel roof style.
It was once a linseed oil mill, of which there were quite a few in the Hosensack/Powder Valley area. In the 1980's and 1990's, the building was used as a chicken house, but has been remodeled and improved greatly before 1999. There is more info. available and this will be updated soon.
The mill has been remodeled into a residence by 2006.
