The original mill at the site, built by Henry Tyson in 1790, or the 1826 rebuilt mill was built as a 40'X 44' stone 2.5 story split-level mill, with a connected 40'X 25' 2.5 story frame addition to the southern elevation. This frame section butted up against the front of the stone portion, was equipped with a drive through archway that traversed along the mill front from one side to the other. The sack hoist was protected up inside this covered portion that stood about a story taller that the stone part , as it was grounded on a higher elevation on the south of the mill.

Vintage photo in possession of owner

This photo is of a photo taken after the new mill was built in 1904. The original stone portion appears to be part of the old mill, an observation concluded by comparing rock placement from a photo of the old mill. The trees must have been planted after the wooden section of the old structure was torn away, probably mid-1800's to be so large after 1904.

A support past on the basement supporting the 12"X 18" beams that support the floor joists. The 12" square support post has its brace block stress-bent from the weight placed upon through the years. These support post with blocks are on every level.

The mill functioned a grist, flour and saw mill during its operating existance. Lily White Flour was produced by then operator/owner Harry W. Miller, who was the last operator of the mill which had been rebuilt with roller mill in 1904 after a fire destroyed the rebuilt 1826 mill in 1903. Much of the stone portion was salvagable and reused in the new mill, which was rebuilt with 2 stories of frame, one story being enclosed in the mansard roof. The mansard roof-level was not considered a story and was not taxed as such for many years.

Some of the millers/owners after Henry Tyson were Chris Stonier, H. Shrantz, Michael & Andrew Miller, and Henry A. Miller. Harry operated the mill until it closed in 1940.

The mill history is fuzzy for about 35 years, probably some of which saw the structure sitting vacant and deteriorating. Paul Campbell bought the mill in 1974 and painstakingly renovated the building into a residence, working evenings and weekends when not at work at his regular job. Mr. Campbell is the current owner and is continuing to renovate and maintain the mill. The photo shows the miller's house across Miller's Mill Road from the mill.
