Kratz Mill
In Schwenksville's upper end at Main St./Pa 29 & Pa 73 and E. Park Ave. on the east side of Pa 29/73.
The 35'X 65' brick 3 story mill has a style of architecture sometimes seen in eastern Pa., especially the almost flat roof. Sometimes seen in cities and towns, but not necessarily so. It was built in 1868 by Wasser and Zent, and later known as Longacres Mill. A dam upstream on the Perkiomen Cr. once furnished water for operation of the machinery.
One of the last uses for the old mill was as a dry-cleaning business. The last known owner was Frank Morgan. At the time of the photo, the building was utilized as apartments. The lower level housed a tax preparation business. Good to see these old sructures of early American industry being used for alternate businesses instead of being torn down.
