From the north edge of Reamstown on Pa 272, turn SE on Park St/T850. Immediately turn left on N Main St/T700, go about 0.4 miles, turn right on Peiffer Hill Rd/T852, go approximately 0.8 miles and veer left on Kramer Mill Road/T876 after passing under US 222. Go about 1.6 miles to the mill on the left just before the junction with S Muddy Creek Rd/T816.
This 40'X 55' fieldstone 2.5 story mill was built in 1830 by Ephrim a& Elizabeth Shober and operated by them until 1864. In 1875, the mill was run by Rubin E. Shober. John Fry was the owner in charge in 1989; an by 1914, C. S. Kramer operated/owned the mill and closed it in 1922.
The earlier mill was built prior to 1769 by Martin Fry, who ran it for 20 years before selling it to Rudolf & Peter Fry. In 1893, it was owned solely by Peter Fry and then John Fry in 1800. Michael Bare in 1802, Abram Landis from 1804-18224.
Then sometimes flour, grist, and cider mill(distillery), produced 8 barrels of flour a day using an overshot wheel and a turbine powered by the waters of Little Muddy Creek falling 5' along a 5,000' headrace. The spent water returned to the creek via a 600' tailrace. In 1970 and in 1987, the mill was in fair condition but vacant. By 1994, the mill had been refurbished and was being used as a craftshop.
