Knabb/Kauffman Grist Mill
North on Pa. 73 in village of Oley, Pa., turn left onto Friedensburg Rd. for several hundred yards, then right onto Old State Rd. The mill is ahead on the right side of the road.
A 35'x45' fieldstone mill 3.5 stories in height. Built by Jacob & Sarah Knabb in 1831. The original inlet arch was at the back third of the mill in this photo where the patio door has been put in-the different colored stone and newer mortor suggest an arched area.
The mill was reported in ruins in 1989, but by October 1992, it had been very nicely renovated into a dwelling for people habitation. Thank you for preserving a bit of history instead of losing it for future generations.
Twin outlet arches for the release of water from the mill back to Little Manatawny Creek.
The mill is thought to have closed its doors to milling operation in 1933, although some eguipment is still in place on the second and third floors.
The ice house directly behind the mill structure.
