Verse for Thought
" The Lord is my strength and song, and He has become my salvation. The voice of rejoicing and salvation is in the tents of the righteous; the right hand of the Lord does valiantly."

Jacob Kirk bought his brother's property and the Lower Mill, a saw & clover mill prior to 1815, probably in 1797. Jacob, then in 1815, built the brick 2.5 story mill on one story of stone and continued to own & operate them through 1824.

Evan Brabson closed the flour, grist and saw mill in 1927. The mill had been powered by Raccoon Creek from a 12' dam, turning an overshot wheel to produce 8 barrels of flour/day.Coordinates: N39.75538° W76.10606°

A slightly different style of a receiving and loading area than seen in most mill applications. The Lower Mill was in ruins by 1883 and all traces have vanished. The Upper mill was converted to a home and remains as such in very good condition in 2004.

I was allowed by the then owners, to sketch from an original early photograph depicting the way the mill really was in the mid-1800's. The colored sketch was done by Gordon Callison in 2007. See more examples of his art at www.artbygordy.com
