Kirk's Mill
From Md 273 in Culvert, go south on Md 272 a little over two miles to England Creamery Rd. Turn right and go a little less than one mile to Kirks Mill Lane. Turn left and drive to the mill on the left after crossing the creek. It sits in an open field beside a dirt road that goes back to a farm house.
An active grist and sawmill business once operated out of this unassuming board-and-batten covered frame building.
Kirk's Covered Bridge photographed sometime in 1946.
The structure, which stands along the level floodplain of the Great North East Creek, southwest of Aion, now serves as a hay barn.
Heavy steel pulleys adore a lineshaft outside the stone foundation of the mill converted to a storage barn.
W. R. Matthews, miller, was located here on the 1877 county map.
