The 30'X 40' frame mill of 3.5 stories was built prior to 1825 by Joseph Slater to house his felt making industry.

The felt was used to make hats for those that couldn't afford beaver hats of the day. The mill was converted into the Federal Hill Service Station, run by an old woman named Mrs. Carpenter.

The rear entrance and exit for the mill after it was converted into a bar/nightclub called the Yellow Star.

The peaceful looking Pequannock River behind the mill. A record breaking flood occurred on October 10, 1903 that washed the dam away. It was the largest flood ever recorded in the area up to the 1960's, when a larger flood did occurr in 1968.

When I was a boy, my grandmother, Dorothy Drew, used to live in a house where the gravel parking lot is now. The house in the 70's was close to the river. There is a picture of it from the flood of 1968 with a hardware sign in front and water all around. In the late 70's my father, John Passanante, rebricked the right side of the mill building and also sided and repainted it there used to be more windows on the right side than there is now.
