Johnson's/Schollenberger's Mill
One mile south of Bechtelsville, turn left onto Swamp Creek Rd. Go 1-1.5 miles. The mill is the brick structure on the left.
This 40'x55' brick mill was the last Swamp Creek water-powered feed mill to operate in Colebrookdale Twp., Berks Co.
Known as Schollenberger's Mill since 1892, when William Schollenberger bought it from Nicholas Johnson who built it in 1865.
In 1935, Schollenberger's son Daniel took over the operation of the 2.5 story mill with stone foundation and ran it until 1956.
Stone ground flour was made here until 1917, then it became a feed mill.
Closed in 1981 with some windows broken out. The mill Had two water wheels internally located for protection from the weather. The one wheel was about 6' in diameter and about 12' wide. It had to be low and wide to compensate for the low entrance point of the water power source into the mill.
