Huntsburg Grist Mill
About 4 miles north of Marksboro on Sh 94 or 4 miles south of Fredon on Sh 94, turn east on Hunts Road and go about 1mile to the mill on the right on a left corner as Hunts Road continues downhill. Another mile to Huntsburg on Ch 519/Wintermute Road.
This 4.5 story mill appears to be only 2.5 stories in height, but on the left side, there are 4 stories of window up to the roof facia.
Bear Creek drops over a 25' falls behind the mill, tumbling over a shale rock cliff. It would be quite impressive with high stream flow.
Notice the four stories of windows on the lower downhill side of the mill. A door on the right, second story up from creek level has a what looks to have been a stone landing and steps leading toward the road, although this is still on story below the 1st story windows fronting Hunts Road.
Down by the creek is a separate channel of walled rock which can only be the tailracefrom the mill leading back to Bear Creek.
The mill is approximately 40'X 55-60' and 4 partial stories at least tall.
The miller's house is just up the road about 200' on the opposite side of the road.
SPOOM info: Other mills below Hunts Mill Pond were run at various sites. These include a sawmill, distillery, fulling/carding mill, clover mill, and a plaster mill. Some ruins can be found downstream along Wintermute Road/Ch 519 near Hunts Road and perhaps near Ch 519 as it crosses Bear Creek near Hibler Road/Ch 519. Ch 519/Hibler Road runs south along Bear Creek, crossing into Warren Twp. as Hibler Road, crossing Bear Creek again, becomes Dark Moon Rd.
