From Cherokee, go south on US 441 about 1-2 miles to the mill on the left at 3082 US 441. The mill is about 500? north of Olivet Church Road and US 441 junction.

In 2012, the old mill was featuring Gem Mining as an activity available.
The mill is a hard structure about which to find information.

An elevated sluice carries water from the dammed area to the large overshot wheel.
The steel waterwheel has a radius of about 10 feet. A cover from the end of the sluice to a quarter down the wheel keeps the water from entering the buckets and turning the wheel.
The Jewel Hayes family built an early mill in the early part of the 1800's. The present mill was built in 1886. The mill was last run in 1986.
