Haldeman / Biesecker / River View Mill
About 3 miles west of Bainbridge, Pa. on Pa 441 at Governor's Stable Rd and Snitz Creek/Devil's Run and about 3 miles east of the Dauphin County line.
This 40'X 60'X 3.5 story sandstone/brownstone mill, the first mill on the site, was built in 1840 by Solomon Haldeman. It was owned successively by Isaac Kuhns, Samuel Ebersole, and Abraham Collins from 1849-1899.
The mill was supplied with water to power the overshot wheel, remains of which are still in the wheel pit inside the rear of the mill(picture above), from the dam on Snitz Creek. Water dropped 6' from the dam to the wheel 1300' away to produce at its peak time, 50 barrel of flour/day.
Operations ceased in 1942 when J. M. Bieseker closed the mill for good. The structure was vacant and in fair condition in 1987 and owned by Joseph & Ollie M. Schmdt.
