Hain / Wertz Grist Mill
About 0.7 miles northwest of Wernersville, Pa. on US 422, turn left onto Sportsman Rd. Go 0.6 miles ot the junction with Hospital Road and Huntzinger Road. The mill is very near this intersection.
The 36'X 55'limestone 3.5 story mill, built by Fred Hain in the 1750's has become a storage facility or office space for the mental health facility at Wernersville.
The dam is just up the hill behind the mill but visible from the Sportsman Road.
Rear view of the mill, erected probably after 1750, since that is the date for the first mill on the site. These limestones appear to be cut / squared, rather than odd, assorted sizes and shapes.
The dam on Hospital Creek that fed Hain / Wertz Mill.
A closeup of the second from the bottom door on the front elevation showing some paint chipping and wear and weathering plus a hornets nest. *GPS: 40 19' 11" , -76 06' 61"*
