A very engaging mill, now a residence, especially from the west. The 2.5 story fieldstone mill measures approximately 30'X 50'. The mill was built and opened for business in 1761. It was rebuilt and enlarged between 1798 and 1817, and finally converted into a residence in 1970.
The dam and millrace are still existant. The mill converted into a residential dwelling is located at a crossroads in the former community of Talcose.
In 1810, the mill was known as Thomas Spackman's Mill and later, John's son, Isaac Spackman's Mill; from 1828-1866, it was called John McMinn's Grist Mill; from 1866-1869, it was owned by Daniel Gilbert; and from 1873 thru 1883, and perhaps beyond, the operation was Grubbs Grist Mill, owned and operated by Alfred Grubb.
Milling operations continued into the 1950's before ceasing. GPS: 39' 59.04N, 75' 39.86W 262'/80 meters Unionville Quadrangle
