Griesemer's Mill / Brown's Mill
From the junction of Pa 662 & Pa 562 at Yellow House, continue west on Pa 562 for slightly over one mile, turn left on Limekiln Road, go about 1.5 miles, turn right on Brown's Mill Road and travel about half mile to the Monacacy Creek and the mill.
A small mill, about 30'X 45' standing 2.5 stories high made of red sandstone/fieldstone. The mill is in a complex with a farmstead.
The original mill of 1841/1843 that was the basis for F.M. Brown's & Sons, Inc, a local milling mogul with mills in Birdsboro, Sinking Springs, Reading, and Fleetwood--all in Berks County.
The catshead on the gable end of the mill showing the date the mill was built.
The south rear side of the mill with the side doors and catshead for use along the then, in 1843, gravel road of slow horse and wagon travel. The white frame building attached to the rear was used for storage.
Another view of the rear of the mill from the mill pond and dam side.
The dam, breached, and millpond with the mill farm buildings in the background.
The miller's/owner's house across the road just past the mill to the west. A very nice, intact mill, farm, & house complex. It is not known if equipment remains in the mill.
