In 1773 John Gibson had a grist and saw mill on this site. The mills were purchased by Daniel Eachas in 1823 for $3,000.

Jesse Richards owned the property from 1829 to 1937. He sold the mill property in 1837 to Dr. Bushrod Rush.

In 1854, the mill was owned by George Rush. George sold it to D. B. Kinchloe in 1856. Jesse Richards and B. H. Jordan purchased he mill at public auction.

John Thomas Brown purchased the site in 1867. William G. Fletcher bought the mill in 1922.
