Gotwalt's Grist Mill / Reider's Mill / Bower's Cider Mill
At the junction of I-83 and Sh 124 at the SE corner of York City, go east on Sh 124 about 1000', turn right on Haines/Camp Betty Washington Road and go about 1.3 miles to the mill on the right, now the Olde Mill Cabinet Shoppe.
The 35'X 45' stone & frame grist mill was built in 1853 by Daniel Gotwalt.
It was rebuilt in 1895 by a man named Reider and probably used as a grist mill again.
Somewhere along the way, it also was tagged as Bower's Cider Mill or Distillery. This may have been during the 1930's around the time of Prohibition.
The sign above the second door along the roadside face of the mill at 1660 Betty Washington Road proclaims its use today, that of the Olde Mill Cabinet Shoppe.
The Olde Mill Cabinet Shoppe has occupied the mill premises since 1993, after the stone work was redone and the mill overall restored structurally but not operationally. See the website to view the particulars about the current business.
