Godshall Mill / Morwood Grist Mill
Located at the SE intersection of Fretz Road and Camp Road just east of a closed, stone-arched bridge over the Perkiomen Creek north of Morwood, Penna.
This 1790 mill with overshot unloading bay is at the end of a several hundred yard raceway. In 1866, Samuel Shelly Godshall bought the miull from Herman K. Godshall, a Franconia feed merchant, for $12,000 and two tracts of land. This mill had more extensive water power that Samuel's last mill in New Hanover Twp. at Swamp Creek along Pa 73/Pa 663 at Lugwig Road. Samuel and his son, Allen, operated the mill until he retired and moved to Souderton, Pa.
Samuel's hiers, Aaron, Lewis, Allen, and Henry Godshall, sold the Morwood Grist Mill & 36 acres for $26,000 in 1885 to David Shueck. The 2.5 story stuccoed mill of stone construction was last used by William Godshall, having ceased operating between 1958-62. It was owned by Godshall's widow, Mrs. Leidy Knechel for a while. Now owned by Dean Haubrick and is empty of all machinery as of April 1983.
